Start from the town square Södra Torget. Gustaf Fröding lived for 14 years in Kristinehamn at a number of places. In his time, street life was very lively around the pump in the square (the yellow building furthest away). You can read Gustaf’s poem about the house if you click on the link below. Walk across the square, past the Hotel Stadshotellet, to the house at 5 Nya Kyrkogatan. This is where Gustaf Fröding’s family lived for 10 years. You can book a guided tour or click for further information about the house. Then visit the family grave which lies to the right of the church. Back at the square take a walk along the pleasant street Trädgårdsgatan and absorb the atmosphere of Gustaf Fröding’s Kristinehamn.
Take a trip 100 years back in time. Here there is a museum, shop with handicrafts, locally-produced food, boiled sweets in paper cones, homemade buns and stores of Värmland. Ölme General Store and Café is located behind the swimming pool, on the River Varnan. Open: Thurs-Fri 11.00-18.00, Sat-Sun 11.00-16.00. If it happens to be closed when you arrive, you can always take a look at the exterior as well as admire Carl Nesjar’s water fountain. After your visit take a nice walk along the River Varnan and admire the unique boeier Christine af Bro. The vessel is moored in the guest harbour. When you click on the link below, you will come to MUSEUMS. Choose Ölme General Store, Åke’s Electrical Museum or The Boeier Christine af Bro for further information.
